Christian Biblical Counseling

Christian, Biblical Counseling, to describe it in simple terms, is helping people to learn how to follow God’s lifestyle for you emotionally, mentally, physically, and spiritually. How do we do this you say? Some say we need the Bible plus psychology. Others say the Bible alone is sufficient (see “Why Christians Can’t Trust Psychology,” by Ed Bulkley, and “How Christian is Christian Counseling,” by Gary Almy, M.D.). Well, what does God say? He says that it is through the Word of God in the Holy Scriptures that we can learn how to live a joyful and fulfilling lifestyle. II Timothy 3:16 reads,

“All Scripture is God-breathed and is useful for teaching, rebuking, correcting and training in righteousness, so that the servant of God may be thoroughly equipped for every good work.”

God left us all that we need to know and follow in His Word, the Bible. So then, where should Christians go to heal the deep hurts in their hearts? Let me then ask you this: if you had a great problem, who would you go to in order to get help? Would you go Freud, Skinner, Maslow, or would you go to Jesus, who tells us in His Word that He is our Counselor, our Healer, and our Comforter, able to do all things.

If we say we believe there is a God and that He is the Savior of the world, then wouldn’t it make sense to get to know who He is and what He’s like? We don’t normally hang around people, or have close relationships with just anybody, so why would we want to follow God’s ways in life without knowing much about Him? Do you know anyone who is perfect? Do you know anyone who can do anything? Do you know anyone who has all the answers to life and knows how to fix your problems? How about someone who can take away your pain? Do you know anyone who would die for you so that you can have a joyful life? This is the God we’re talking about. Doesn’t this sound like the kind of person you’d like to get to know?
